Okay, okay.

Its been awhile since I posted and thought I'd update a bit.

Well, No sign of Pegleg I'm beginning to get a Bit worried, Biggie Is digging right where he last saw him. luckily she dug -next- to him, shes trying to get Under to molt, I think. she has enough eco earth and should be able to get under, even If you can still see the top of her shell.

I'm going to be gone from the 16th - 19th, so I have to clear out all the gross food today and give them some new stuff tonight, clear that out In the morning and put In MORE fresh food. I want to make sure that they will survive. I'll put In lots of fresh water, salt water, etc etc and hope that'll do.

Everythings going well Down here.. the snow Is Finally starting to melt.

Until later,

The Insane Crabber.

Speech. <3(Or part of It!)

Opt for starter:

Hey there, My Names ***** as you all know... and I've been owning crabs for quite some time now. Not as long as others, but there quite popular pets and I'd love to show you one! Sadly, I couldn't bring one In because Its dead of winter and It probably can't survive In a Kritter Keeper for two hours. they should always be In a ten gallon tank, unless for a short period of time.

In the crabbing world there are many experiences, and Many doubts. some times you could be scared you did something wrong, Because Everyone makes there mistakes occasionally, even the experienced crabber. Currently crabbers all over the world are all united and hooked up through the HCA. When crabs first came out as legal pets, not much was known About them, and this Is why they kept dieing actively. Believe it or not, We now have the Information! Crabs can live older then sixty years. it Is believed that they can live longer In the wild, It Is often said "There Is no way to tell a crab's age." Well, we know the age of our largest crabs, there at least thrity, probably In the mid thritys. If you can some how count the rings on the antennae like my sister did, then ..wow. So thats all there Is to crabbing, right? You learn a bit about history, there age, - your done your ready to own crabs. WRONG.
Crabs can be taken care of very well, actually! theres a lot to learn and we're only beginning. However, most pet stores you go Into WON'T have the proper lay out, you can always try and convince the Employee to make some changes. hehe.

Crabs need at least a ten gallon tank, and should never live alone. they have groups of over 100 In the wild! WOW! They often aren't found alone, and are scavengers. So yes, yo can leave there food In there for awhile but once it starts to mold theres a sign you should defiantly take It out. Some of the key facts of there diet Is:
Meat, Fruits, Veggies, Honey, and Cuddle bone! Honey Is one of the only things they can actually have with sugar In It. Its an energy booster and helps them In there time of need! They need meat otherwise they WILL eat eachother. it also must be unseasoned and buttered.

The most stressful times for you and your crab would have to be either Molting, Or going 'Naked'. Sadly, Molting Is a very common thing considering they need to do It to live. And Dropping there shell, well, Its actually quite shocking to see them out of there shell for the first time. It can be scary, too. There Abdomens are very sensitive and before touching your crab Its VERY Important you wash your hands And dry them thoroughly so that you can rinse off any lotion or Perfume. then, you can either get the crab carefully Into an ISO, Or you could attempt to curl the abdomen carefully Into the shell. theres a few different methods but lets not get into details. Its stressful for both you and the crab - simple as that.

Crabs have very Interesting Behavior, They have feeler fights and don't really grasp the concept of "Going around" anything, or anyone. Its very.. er.. Interesting to watch these little guys boot around the tank. The more the merrier! ;D There are some strange behaviors but don't get scared - Its probably nothing. However If a crab Is grabbing another by the shell and rocking back and forth, TAKE ACTION. Take the 'Bully' and put him In an ISO with food water, etc etc for about 1 hour. then put him back In --- they'll get the picture. I swear! there like kids!

The downside to owning crabs? Thats got to be the pinching.
These things can GRAB! The fastest way to get them to let go Is grab a jug of DECHLORINATED FRESH WATER, and Dump It on the crab over the sink, careful that you can catch It and It won't fall. The crab should let go, make sure It doesn't pinch again and stick It Into the tank. yes, Its ok to scream but I wouldn't suggest It, however I do it everytime They pinch me. The Crab's don't usually want to hurt you, Its just the way they are. There scared, or Threatened and feel the need to pinch you.

Bath time, Oh the Joys of bath time! I don't even want to BEGIN on this, but I will. Crabs need baths If you don't have a large salt water dish where they can bathe themselves. when I bathe my crabs, they love to try and pinch me. haha, its kind of funny.. but at the same time not. when a crab with the pincher BIGGER then your thumb Is trying to grab you, you aren't going to appreciate that. you can keep them under for about five to ten seconds. Whatever you feel more comfortable on.

Humidity, and Heat!
Crabs NEED Humidity and heat, because they come from very warm humid climates and actually have gills on them! If you don't have any Humidity In there they'll Die, and thats.. not really wanted. Is It? You should usually get a heat lamp around 100 watts depending on the Size of the tank. Also a Humidity and Heat gauge Is also a priority. most of the time, They'll have an "Optimum" area where you can check what temperature / Humidity level It should be at.

Crabs are not Immune to many fumes. they cannot be around Paint, Smoke, Perfume, Any type of odd smell. Food, yeah, they can smell food. what do you think they find on the beach?

A Sad Passing.

I will always remember you, Mr.krabs, Tank. I thought I should put a Memorial up for you too(Copied from the HCA's memorial/tribute area, because If I type It up again I'll be In tears)

Mr.krabs, I'll never forget the day I got you.

I saw you In the petstore 2 weeks before Mom said I could get crabs. I said "Look at this one, Mom, do you think I could get crabs? I have the money and could go the research." Of course the answer was 'No,' well, when my Guinea pig died, My Mom and Dad went for a walk with the Dog and came back, saying that I could get crabs as long as I paid for them, and did the Research first. I hit the net and In less then 2 days I had become an Expert, but little did I know I needed to know a lot more then Knowledge.

We went down to our local pet store and went In, and Lo and Behold, You were still there. The cashier dug up the crabs(at the time I did not know this was bad -- I corrected her on the next visit) and I got Tank, Mr.krabs, and Pod. Mr.krabs of course was my first choice, I had loved him the moment I laid my eyes on him 2 weeks ago and knew He was right. I went online and looked up even more things after having them, I got bored for a while and didn't take them out but did take care of them. When the Degu died we cleaned out the 10 gallon and Tank died shortly after (R.I.P Babe, I miss ya..) but yet he Never gave off the death smell. I still feel bad that I could have buried him alive. We bought Scooter and Google, thats when I corrected the Cashier and we went home to the tank. You were so funny to watch rip around, We never did get that video of you. when my mom suggested one you we're underground, starting to molt. while I was sleeping, Mom Dug you up and buried you In the ISO. After talking to a dear friend on the HCA, we realized we had done a boo boo and dug you up, putting you on the sand. a few days later you crawled out of your shell and went Into the corner. slowly digging for about 3 days, you eventually grew mold and we gave you a bath. you did not survive, baby, i feel worse and worse everyday.

Today we got you a very pretty flower, with Red flowers on It. we will bury you today, and your ISO will be out and put away until needed again when a Micro gets hurt / molts and comes up all squishy(as In pink and fresh and new, toe nails and all). You were my best friend and made me feel so special. You made me happy and Tears well In my eyes as I think about you. You were precious, special and loved. You deserved a better owner, but I couldn't have asked for a better crab. even though you Pinched me many many times, I still understood you and loved you very deeply. <3

You'll always be missed when I adopted you on that fine afternoon, I didn't know what was In store. here I am, obsessed and crying about something most people wouldn't understand. You were my baby....

And get Tank to share the lettuce! Wink

Your duty Is done, rest peacefully over Rainbow bridge, I will meet you there. <3

Love, Your Adopted Mommy.

However I am late, baby, I felt I still needed a Memorial for You, Tank, you meant so much to me.

I remember you were my third choice. You were so active and wonderful. I remember giggling and laughing with my mom at the pet store. we enjoyed you guys all so much, and you expesically. You guys all had so much character.. I remember the time you pinched Cuddles(our dog) On the nose! I was so worried you had gotten hurt. you turned Into her favorite, you weren't scared of her witch meant so much to her. The others would avoid here, witch Is understandable considering shes over 20x the size of you guys. When you began to get sluggish and with the first bath I had thought I had drowned you. thank goodness I hadn't. I love you, bud, You will always been In my heart. When I found you curled out on the sand I was concerned, and I remember getting almost no comfort. ....I miss you. so much. I will always remember how you would drag the Lettuce Into the house and eat three quarters of It. you loved that stuff so much, It made me giggle and laugh, and take my mind off of things that were going on In life. you guys brightened me up so much. Your duty Is done, rest peacefully over Rainbow bridge, I will meet you there. <3

...and don't forget to share the Lettuce. :']

T.V. and Crabs.

I know a lot of people don't hold there crabs but I like too. I can get a feeling of where they are (even through my clothes) When the large ones are on me. what I like to do Is turn on a 30 minute program and hold them for about 30 minutes, then they'll go back Into there cage. I think this Is a good way of getting crabs used to you, even If they just sit there.

Electronics are a major part of the World now and some of the time We just won't have "time" too Actually hold the crabs, wrong you are! You can easily talk on a phone and hold one, Play the computer(Or laptop), and let them crawl around on you.. or even on the Desk! (As long as Its safe and you keep an eye on them) I like to do activity's with my crabs.. that way They can feel "Included" Too. However, you do have to be ready for a pinch.. because, well, Crabs Are Crabby. ;) trust me, I know this from experience.

The other day I was thinking about adding a salt water pool to the Crabitat, bubbles, filter, rocks, etc, a real beach for the crabs! Then I got thinking about fiddlers. they needed a salt water pool, right? I was thinking that maybe If I did my research my mom would let me get some fiddlers in with them.

well Lo and behold, I can't find any sites about them! ._.

The Shell change. finally!

So I woke up this morning to find that my big guy had taken the largest shell. he was sluggish so I took him out for about 30 minutes, but hes up In the 44g moving around fine now! (:

I am going to bury Mr.krabs In a african violet (or a different plant, depends on whats In the flower shop In the dead of winter) and then the towel / ISO will finally be out. I plan on getting a few more crabs later on next week, because today I'll be busy and tomorrow.. Idk.. but I know my mom's going to go out today and she'll look for new crabs then. x]
